ACRYLIC SUITABLE DISINFECTANTS

Disinfectants Suitable for Use with Acrylic Monoplace Hyperbaric Chambers

Since commonly-used disinfectants for acrylic monoplace hyperbaric chambers have been discontinued by their manufacturers, a number of customers have called BARA·MED to find out how to disinfect their acrylic chambers. These inquiries led us to undertake acrylic compatibility testing of new disinfectants according to methods established by Dr. Jerry Stachiw¹. Customers also wanted to know which acrylic-compatible substance would be effective for killing clostridium difficile (C. Diff) after patients infected with this organism have been treated in their chamber. A 1:10 sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach) solution will kill C. Diff.

The 11 samples that have been identified acceptable for use on acrylic hyperbaric chambers are listed below. A complete report on the testing of these and other disinfectants is available from BARA·MED upon request.
